Regions of the brain, the eye and accommodation, correcting sight, and how the body controls its temperature.
What you will learn
- Match the cerebral cortex, cerebellum and medulla to their jobs
- Explain accommodation for near and distant objects
- Describe how myopia and hyperopia are corrected
- Explain the responses to the body being too hot or too cold
The brain
- Cerebral cortex: consciousness, intelligence, memory and language.
- Cerebellum: balance and the coordination of muscle movements.
- Medulla: unconscious activities such as heart rate and breathing.
Scientists have mapped the brain by studying patients with damage to one area, by stimulating areas with electrodes, and with MRI scans. Treating brain damage is hard: the brain is complex and delicate, and treatment can harm other areas.
