Burette readings, titres, concordant results, technique and the concentration calculation.
What you will learn
- Work out a titre and a mean of concordant titres
- Explain each step of titration technique
- Calculate a concentration from titration results (Higher)
Readings and titres
Read the burette at the start and at the end point, to 2 decimal places.
The titre is the difference. The first run is a rough guide; then repeat until two or three titres are concordant (within 0.10 cm³) and take their mean.
- start 0.50 cm³, end 23.45 cm³: titre 22.95 cm³
- titres 22.95, 23.05, 22.90: mean 22.97 cm³
Indicator colours: methyl orange is red in acid and yellow in alkali; phenolphthalein is colourless in acid and pink in alkali. Both change sharply at the end point, which is why they are used rather than universal indicator.
