Moles in a solution, working out an unknown concentration from a titration, and the volume one mole of any gas takes up at room temperature and pressure.

Concentration in mol/dm³

Concentration can be given in moles of solute per dm³ of solution.

concentration (mol/dm³) = moles of solute ÷ volume (dm³)
moles = concentration × volume (dm³)
concentration (g/dm³) = concentration (mol/dm³) × Mr

All boards (Chemistry only, Higher): recall these.

  1. 0.050 mol of NaOH in 250 cm³ of solution
  2. 250 cm³ = 0.250 dm³
  3. concentration = 0.050 ÷ 0.250 = 0.20 mol/dm³
  4. in g/dm³: 0.20 × 40 = 8.0 g/dm³
