Volume of cuboids, prisms and cylinders, their surface areas, capacity in litres, and packing and filling problems.
Cross-section times length
A prism has the same cross-section all the way through.
Its volume is the area of that cross-section times the length.
prism: V = area of cross-section × length
cuboid: V = length × width × height
cylinder: V = πr²h
A cylinder is a prism with a circle as its cross-section.
- triangular prism: cross-section ½ × 6 × 8 = 24 cm², length 15 cm
- V = 24 × 15 = 360 cm³
