Pie charts share out 360°

Each item in a pie chart gets 360 ÷ total degrees.

With 40 people, each person gets 360 ÷ 40 = 9°, so a group of 12 gets 12 × 9 = 108°. To read a pie chart backwards, find the fraction of the circle: a 72° sector out of 90 people is 72/360 × 90 = 18 people.

A bigger sector is a bigger fraction, not always a bigger number: two pie charts with different totals cannot be compared by angle alone.
