Move between fractions, decimals and percentages, order mixed lists, and turn recurring decimals into fractions.

What you will learn

  • Convert between fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Order a mixed list
  • Tell which fractions terminate
  • Write a recurring decimal as a fraction (Higher)

Three ways to write the same number

  • Fraction to decimal: divide the top by the bottom, or make the bottom 10, 100 or 1000. 3/8 = 375/1000 = 0.375.
  • Decimal to fraction: 0.375 is 375 thousandths, 375/1000 = 3/8.
  • Percentage means out of 100: 35% = 35/100 = 7/20 = 0.35. To write a percentage as a decimal, divide by 100; to write a decimal as a percentage, multiply by 100: 0.62 = 62%.
  • A percentage with a decimal: 17.5% = 17.5/100 = 175/1000 = 7/40.

To order a mixed list, write everything as a decimal first.
