Grade 1 Music Theory, Unit 2, Lesson 3 of 8

The treble clef

About 2 min to read, then 5 practice questions

The G clef

The clef curls round the second line: G

A clef at the start of the stave tells you which note is where. This is the treble clef. It curls round the second line up. That line is G, so it is also called the G clef. It is for higher notes: a flute, a violin, a piano's right hand.

Quick check

Which line does the treble clef curl round?

The lines: E G B D F

The five lines, bottom to top

From the bottom, the treble lines are E G B D F. To remember them, say: Every Good Boy Deserves Football.

The spaces: F A C E

The four spaces, bottom to top

The four spaces, from the bottom, are F A C E. They spell FACE. That one is easy to keep in your head.

Quick check

What is this note?
