Read it like a player
Three things to read first
The music in context section asks about a piece of music. This unit starts with a short melody; the next unit reads a longer extract. First, look at the music the way a player would:
- The clef and the key signature: which notes are sharp or flat?
- The time signature: how many beats in a bar?
- The words and signs: how fast, how loud, and in what style?
Quick check
This melody has one flat, a C sharp, and ends on D. Which key is it in?
Where the words and signs sit
The speed word sits over the start. The dynamic sits under the first note. Each sign sits on the note it belongs to.
Quick check
What does the short line over the second note ask for?
Remember
- Clef and key signature.
- Time signature.
- Words and signs: how fast, how loud, what style.
