Music in context shows a short Grade 3 melody and asks about it. Read it first as a player would: clef and key, time signature, then the words and signs.

Three things to read first

A melody to read

The music in context section asks about a piece of music. This unit starts with a short melody; the next unit reads a longer extract. First, look at the music the way a player would:

  1. The clef and the key signature: which notes are sharp or flat?
  2. The time signature: how many beats, and what kind?
  3. The words and signs: how fast, how loud, and in what style?

Quick check

This melody has three sharps, an E sharp, and ends on F sharp. Which key is it in?
