The rise and fall of a melody: mostly steps, leaps balanced by a step back, and one highest note placed late.
Steps and leaps
A singable line moves mostly by step.
A leap is a moment of energy: after it, turn round and move by step in the other direction, so the leap is balanced. Two or three leaps in a row, all the same way, are hard to sing and hard to remember.
