How V7 resolves: the 7th falls, the leading note rises, why I then often has no 5th, and why V7d leads to Ib.
Two notes must move
In V7 the 7th falls a step and the leading note rises to the tonic.
In C major the 7th falls a step (F to E), and the leading note rises to the tonic (B to C). Both pulls lead into chord I.
