Grade 2 Music Theory, Unit 9, Lesson 2 of 2

Your time and careful answers

About 2 min to read, then 5 practice questions

A minute a mark

Give each section about a minute a mark. Rhythm, pitch, and keys and scales have 15 marks each: about 15 minutes each. Keep about 10 minutes at the end to check every answer. If a question is taking too long, move on and come back to it.

Quick check

Intervals is worth 10 marks. About how long should you give it?

Careful answers

Clef first: bass. Then the key: one sharp. So this note is F sharp

The exam is marked automatically: each answer is right or not.

  • Read every word of the question.
  • Check the clef and the key signature, then look back along the bar.
  • Count: letters for intervals, beats for bars.

When you check, count a different way the second time.

Quick check

You counted an interval up from the lower note. How should you check it?

Remember

  • About a minute a mark, and 10 minutes kept to check.
  • Read every word. Check the clef and the key. Count.
  • Check another way the second time.

Practise this: 5 questions, about 4 min

Answering from memory soon after reading is what makes it stick, so now is a good time.
