Write any Grade 3 minor scale in either form in three steps, letters, key signature, raised notes; then name a written scale from its notes.

Worked example: G melodic minor, going up

B flat, then E natural and F sharp
  1. Letters: G to G in semibreves, one note on each line and space.
  2. Key signature: G minor shares B flat major's two flats, B flat and E flat.
  3. Raised notes: going up, the 6th and 7th: E natural and F sharp.

So the accidentals are B flat and F sharp, and E needs none.

Quick check

In step 3, why does the E need no accidental?
