Multi-step problems with prices, bills, timetables and shared costs. Plan the steps, compare like with like, and finish with a sentence that answers the question.
What you will learn
- Plan a multi-step money problem before calculating
- Compare value by finding the cost of the same amount
- Work out bills, deals and exchange rates
- Read a timetable and decide whether a plan works
Plan before you calculate
Problem-solving questions do not tell you the steps.
Before you calculate, ask three questions:
- What does the question want at the end: a number, a choice, or yes or no?
- What do I need to find on the way?
- What must I compare, and is it in the same units?
Write each step with a few words, such as "Plan X cost" or "per 100 g". The working earns method marks even if one number slips.
