The shape of a piece: phrases and their lengths, the climax of a melody, question-and-answer phrases, and the forms longer pieces take.
Phrases and their lengths
A phrase mark shows a musical sentence: read the bar number where it starts and where it ends, and count both bars and every bar between.
Grade 6 extracts usually move in 4-bar phrases. A phrase mark spans whole bars; a slur over two or three notes is not a phrase mark.
