Terms

The rules for using Brainlag Code and paying for Brainlag Code. Last updated 10 October 2026.

The short version

  • The free lessons, playground and free projects need no account and no payment.
  • Your code runs in your own browser. It is yours, and it is not sent to us.
  • Do not use Brainlag Code to write or share harmful code, and do not copy our lessons or solutions to other websites.
  • Brainlag Code is a subscription for adults, or a parent or guardian paying. It renews until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time.
  • You have 14 days to change your mind. None of this takes away your rights under consumer law.

About these terms

Brainlag Code (code.brainlag.co.uk) is part of Brainlag (brainlag.co.uk), run by its owner, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. Email: [email protected]. If you need our postal address, for example to send a formal notice, email us and we will send it to you.

These terms cover Brainlag Code. The Brainlag terms of use also apply, including the rules for accounts, what you make, our responsibility to you and complaints. The privacy notice explains how we use personal data on both sites. If the two sets of terms say different things about Brainlag Code, these terms apply.

Questions: [email protected]. Help with lessons, your account or billing: [email protected].

Free use

The free lessons, the playground and the free projects can be used without an account and without paying. A free Brainlag account saves your progress so it follows you between devices.

Your code

Code you write here runs in your own browser and is saved in your browser's storage. We do not receive it, and we store which lessons you finished, not your code. Your code belongs to you.

When you share code from the playground, the code is put inside the link itself, after the # sign, and is not stored by us. Anyone who has the link can see the code and run it in their own browser, so do not put passwords or anything private in code you share.

Running Python and SQL needs open-source engines (Pyodide and sql.js) that your browser downloads from jsDelivr the first time. The C compiler and the editor come from our own server.

Rules for code

Please do not use Brainlag Code, including the playground, the web preview and share links, to:

  • write, test or share malware, or code meant to attack, overload or get into other people's computers, accounts or websites;
  • make fake login pages or anything else meant to trick people;
  • share content that is illegal, hateful, sexual or meant to bully someone;
  • get around the paywall, copy Brainlag Code lessons, solutions or projects, or scrape the site.

We may close accounts that break these rules.

Lessons and what you may reuse

The lessons, exercises, checks, solutions, projects, cheatsheets and Dev Noodle belong to Brainlag. You may use them to learn and to teach your own classes. You may use the code examples from lessons in your own programs, including programs you share. Please do not copy whole lessons, exercises, solutions or projects to other websites, and do not share Brainlag Code content with people who do not have it.

Brainlag Code uses open-source software, such as the code editor, the C compiler, Pyodide and sql.js. Their licences are listed on the Credits page.

Learning, not production

Lesson code is written to teach. It is often simpler than real-world code and can leave out things like security checks and error handling that real programs need. We work hard to keep lessons correct, but mistakes can happen. Do not rely on lesson code, the playground or our answers for anything important without checking it yourself.

Accounts

A Brainlag account is one email address and password for brainlag.co.uk and Brainlag Code. You must be 13 or over to create one. Keep your password to yourself. You can delete your account at any time from the account page on brainlag.co.uk; if you have a Brainlag plan or a Code Premium subscription that is still set to renew, cancel it first.

Brainlag Code

Brainlag Code is a subscription. While it is active, the signed-in account gets every Brainlag Code lesson, challenge and project here, and no ads on brainlag.co.uk. It does not include the GCSE courses, Music Theory or the printable packs on brainlag.co.uk; the Brainlag Ultra plan, sold on brainlag.co.uk, includes those and the Code course. An account has one plan at a time. The price is shown on the pricing page before you pay: £9.99 a month or £99 a year, in pounds (GBP). We are not registered for VAT, so no VAT is added: the price shown is the total you pay. Code Premium, the plan sold before Brainlag Code, keeps working on the same terms for anyone who already has it.

Brainlag Code may not be on sale yet. If you cannot see a buy button, it is not.

Who can buy. You must be 18 or over, or a parent or guardian paying for your child.

Paying and renewing. Stripe takes the payment when you subscribe, and the subscription renews automatically at the start of each new month or year until you cancel. Before a yearly subscription renews, we will email you to remind you.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time from your account page (Manage billing). Your subscription will not renew, and Brainlag Code keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for. After that the account is on the free plan. Your progress is kept.

Your 14-day right to cancel, and refunds

UK consumer law (the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013), and the same rules in the European Union, give you 14 days from your first payment to cancel. Because you asked for Brainlag Code to start straight away, if you cancel in that time we refund what you paid minus a fair amount for the days you had it. We do the same if you cancel within 14 days after a yearly subscription renews. To cancel this way, email [email protected] with your account email.

If Brainlag Code does not work or is not as described, you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (or your country's consumer law) to have it put right or to get money back. Refunds go back to the card or account you paid with. Nothing here affects your legal rights.

If a payment fails

If a renewal payment fails, Stripe will try again over the following days and Brainlag Code stays on for 7 days while that happens. If the payment still does not go through, the subscription ends and the account returns to the free plan.

Changes

We may change prices or these terms. A price change never applies to a period you have already paid for, and we will email subscribers at least 30 days before a new price applies to them, so they can cancel first. The date at the top shows the latest version of these terms.

Fair use

Brainlag Code is for the person who owns the account. Do not share your login or copy Brainlag Code lessons, solutions or projects to other websites. We may end an account that does, and if we do we will refund the unused part of the current period.

Our responsibility, and the law

We provide Brainlag Code with reasonable care and skill, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland, Northern Ireland or the European Union, you can also bring a claim in your local courts and you keep the mandatory consumer protections of where you live. More detail is in the Brainlag terms.

Exam boards and trademarks

Where we mention exam boards or courses, such as AQA, Pearson Edexcel or OCR, it is only to say what our material covers. Brainlag is not connected with, approved by or endorsed by any exam board. All trademarks belong to their owners.
