How it works

A typing speed test that also helps you revise. Type common words, subject terms or a daily text, or load your own flashcards and notes so practice doubles as revision. Noodle runs beside you at a pace based on your recent runs, and the results show WPM, accuracy, consistency and the keys that trip you up.

  1. Pick what to type and for how long. The clock starts on your first key.
  2. Noodle races beside you at a pace set from your recent runs.
  3. Each result shows your speed graph and the keys that slow you down, with a drill built from them.

Improve your typing

  • Calm mode with sentences: no clock, just clean typing.
  • Type your flashcards. Each one is another pass of revision.
  • Paste notes or a reading and type through it.

FAQ

How is WPM calculated?
WPM counts the characters in words you typed fully correctly, plus their spaces, divides by 5 and then by the minutes. Raw counts every character you left on the page, right or wrong. Accuracy is per keystroke, so a mistake you fix still counts against it.
What does Noodle's pace mean?
Noodle runs at a steady speed based on the middle of your last few runs. Close is a few WPM above it, Easy is a bit below, and Hard chases your best. Beat him and he speeds up next time.
Can I type in Spanish, French or German?
Yes. The word packs follow the page language and you can switch them in the Language menu. Accented letters work with dead keys and your keyboard layout. Turn on Accents optional if your keyboard has no accent keys.
Where are my results saved?
On this device, in your browser. If you sign in to a Brainlag account, they sync to your other devices too.
What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is a typical everyday speed, 60 or more is solid for school work and 80 or more is fast. Aim for 95% accuracy or better before chasing speed.
