How it works

Thought Catcher turns flashcards into a typing game. Thoughts drift down toward Noodle, each one showing a term, and you type the answer to catch it before it lands. Play a built-in topic or any deck you made in Flashcards, and practise pulling answers out of memory with a bit of time pressure.

  1. Pick a deck from the menu: All topics, a built-in set (General Knowledge, World Capitals, Science or Vocabulary), or any deck you saved in Flashcards.
  2. For a warm-up, press Review these cards first. Click a card or press Space to flip it, and use the arrow keys to move between cards.
  3. Press Start, type the answer to a falling thought and press Enter or Catch. You do not need the whole answer: one key word of four letters or more is usually enough.
  4. Keep an eye on score, streak and misses. Every 10 points starts a new wave, and the thoughts fall a little faster.
  5. Press Flip mode to show the answer in the thought and type the term instead. Pause freezes the game, and Reset ends the run.

Tips

  • Play in both directions. Recognising a term and producing it from its meaning are different skills, and exams test both.
  • Keep the backs of your cards short. A long definition is hard to type and harder to remember.
  • Accuracy beats speed: from seven correct answers in a row, each hit is worth extra points.

FAQ

Are my decks and scores saved?
Your decks and your best score are saved in this browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded unless you sign in to an optional free Brainlag account, which syncs them across devices. Clearing your browser data deletes them.
How do I play with my own cards?
Make a deck in the Flashcards tool. Every saved deck with cards appears in this game's menu, and the Study and Quiz links at the top switch modes while keeping the same deck.
Do I have to type the answer exactly?
No. Capital letters, punctuation, emojis and anything in brackets are ignored. You can type the full answer, the answer without small words like the or of, or one key word of four letters or more. If an answer lists options separated by commas, any one of them counts.
