How it works

Eight 24/7 background music streams for studying, grouped by mood: Deep focus, Chill lofi, Piano and classical, and Ambient noise. Pick one, press play and leave it running while you read, write or revise.

  1. Choose a mood. Deep focus has lofi hip hop and synthwave for hard work, Chill lofi is softer for reading, Piano and classical has calm piano and slow jazz with no beats, and Ambient noise is rain and thunder.
  2. Click a stream's picture. The player loads in its place and starts playing.
  3. Set the volume low enough that you can still follow your own thoughts, then switch to your work and leave the tab open.
  4. Next time, look for the Last played label to find the stream you used before.
  5. Open the Focus Timer linked at the top so you work in timed blocks with the music running.

Tips

  • Music without lyrics is usually easier to study with, especially for reading and writing. Save songs with words for breaks or for routine tasks like tidying notes.
  • Rain or steady background noise is good at covering chatter in a busy house, café or library.
  • Use the same stream every time you sit down to study. After a while it becomes a cue that it is time to focus.
  • If you notice yourself listening rather than working, switch to a quieter mood such as Ambient noise.

FAQ

Does the page remember what I listened to?
It remembers only which stream you played last, so it can mark it Last played. That is stored in this browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded unless you sign in to an optional free Brainlag account, which syncs it across devices. Clearing your browser data resets it.
Where does the music come from?
Each stream is a live YouTube broadcast, played through YouTube's privacy-enhanced player. Until you click, the page only shows a preview picture, so the video player does not load until you choose a stream.
Why does a stream not play?
These are live broadcasts run by their own channels, so one can occasionally go offline. Try the other stream in the same mood group, or check that your network allows YouTube.
