How it works

Reading Timer is a stopwatch for reading and study sessions that keeps a log of what you read and for how long. Use it to see where your study time really goes, work towards a weekly reading goal and track how many pages an hour you get through.

  1. Type the subject or book, for example Biology: Chapter 4. Subjects you have logged before appear as suggestions.
  2. Press Start when you begin reading. Press Pause for a break and Start again to carry on.
  3. When you finish, enter the number of pages you read if you want to, then press Log session. It goes into your history with the date, subject, duration and pages.
  4. Set a weekly goal in minutes. The bar shows how many minutes you have read in the last seven days compared with your goal.
  5. Check Totals by subject to see where your time went, and press Export CSV to download your history as a spreadsheet.

Tips

  • Log pages as well as time. Your history then shows pages per hour, which helps you work out how long a set chapter will really take.
  • Pick a weekly goal you can hit even in a busy week, then raise it. Reaching a small target every week beats missing a big one.
  • Name sessions the same way each time, subject first, so your totals by subject stay tidy and easy to compare.
  • Deleted a session by mistake? Tap the message that pops up within five seconds to undo it.

FAQ

Does the timer keep running if I close the tab?
No. The running clock only lives on the open page, so press Log session before you close or reload it. Sessions you have already logged stay in your history.
How is the weekly goal counted?
It adds up every session logged in the last seven days, so it is a rolling week rather than Monday to Sunday. Set the goal to 0 or clear the box to hide it.
Is my reading history saved?
Yes. Your sessions and weekly goal are saved in this browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded unless you sign in to an optional free Brainlag account, which syncs your data across devices. Clearing your browser data deletes your history, so export a CSV if you want a copy.
